"Key Steps To A Successful Globalisation Programme"

Testing

Why is testing so important? Localisation testing plays a key role in readying your software product for market. In fact, it’s an essential component in the development cycle of every successful localisation project.

Engineers and translators rely on testing to perform three key functions: cosmetic, functional and linguistic testing.

Cosmetic testing ensures the aesthetics of the localised software meet the expectations of the end users. For example, the process ensures the visual appeal of graphics and buttons.

Functional testing identifies errors in basic operations, such as menu functions, core application functions and regional default settings.

Linguistic testing uncovers the most common errors, such as the accuracy of translation, the consistency of translation and its sensitivity to the locale. It also provides the linguists a view of their translations in their final format and often will give a better view of the text in context leading to improving the proposed translations and helping with the consistency of the language used across the entire localised content.
